If you were to feel exhausted, you son’t have to feel discouraged and just do the best you can.
When Payu was in Secondary 3, he had been a hardworking student. However, since he just came to Singapore to study for over two years, he had to learn all the subjects in English. Hence, it had not been easy for Payu, but he continued to strive to do his best.
He never stopped studying and was always diligent in doing his homework, as well as read books every day. Day after day, he would sleep very late at night and wake up way too early the next morning. I often thought that he might be too tired because he placed too much pressure on himself. Whenever he received results that were not as good as he expected, he would feel exhausted, discouraged, disappointed and hopeless.
When I was in school one day, Payu suddenly called me and spoke to me dejectedly, as I was just about to start my lesson soon. No matter how worried I felt for him, I did not have much time that I could spare to talk to him.
Subsequently, Payu told me that he was not able to figure out why he would either not be able to answer the questions at all or not feel confident with his answers whenever he sat for his exams. Even if he would always study diligently, read countless books and could even remember all he had learnt from his lessons.
I then told him that he had to pray to God every day for wisdom and strive to do his best. If he were to feel exhausted, he should not feel discouraged and just do the best that he could, as there was no need for him to force himself to do beyond his capabilities.
