When there is a problem, you should always reflect upon your actions and not push the blame onto others.

One of the humans’ habits is making an excuse and blame anything around

them, without looking at your actions. In my life, I often encounter people like

this.

When Payu was four years old, I brought him to the MacRitchie Reservoir in

Singapore. I was chatting with my friend while Payu was running around. Out of a

sudden, he fell and began to cry. Yet, the first thing he said after getting up was

“What kind of mother are you? You let me fall and do not even know how to take

good care of me!” I became speechless and thought: This is only a 4-year-old

boy, yet he has such a sharp tongue! Does he take on his mother or father?

Immediately after, I scolded him, “Payu, why were you not being careful while running? That is a bad habit! After you have fallen, you did not reflect upon yourself, yet you are here blaming others!”

When Payu was arguing with his friend, I never ask who was at fault. But instead, I asked him what did he do? I would have him reflect on his own actions to see if he was the one at fault during the incident. I would not teach Payu to look for others’ fault and blame others.

Most of the time, when children argue, both parties are at fault, so there is no need to figure out who is the actual person who started this argument. That is because it is not important as the saying goes “it takes two hands to clap.” If one person starts, but the other party does not continue, then an argument will not happen.

Whenever Payu received bad results after taking his exams, he would always say that his teacher did not teach well, causing him to not understand anything. However, I told him to try to reflect upon himself to see whether he actually did not understand after learning and even went to sit for his exams without understanding his lessons. Moreover, I had him to reflect on himself as to why did he not ask me, the teacher or even request for additional tuition

sessions? Why did he not do more self-studying sessions? Had he been attempting hard enough to not push blame on others without looking at himself?

Whenever there is a problem, one must teach and train their children to reflect upon themselves and not push the blame onto others. If the child was taught at a young age, he would still be able to change his habits. If he has already grown up, it will not be easy for him to kick this habit. As such, when he starts working, there will definitely be problems. Also, nobody will end up liking him if he were to live with someone else. If he were to start his own family, problems would follow him wherever he goes.

Blaming others is not the best solution to solve any problems, as pushing the blame on each other is a never-ending cycle and does not benefit anyone. Everyone should reflect upon oneself and not blame others.
